"I often
say that I might not have been President if it hadn't been for school
music. And it's really true."
-- President Bill Clinton, June 16, 2000
The Christmas Tubaphonia concert will be held in Narragansett, Rhode Island, on Saturday, December 11th, at Narragansett High School.
All tubas, baritones, euphoniums, serpentines, ophecleides, alto horns, cimbassos, helicons, and, of course, sousaphones are welcome. Registration and rehearsal will be at 5:00 pm and the concert will begin at 7:30 pm. A fee of $5.00 includes eats, a tubaphonia commemorative button, and music, both bass and treble clefs.
Players need to bring their instruments, music stands, and "Carols for a Merry Tubachristmas", if you have a copy. Our conductor will be Gary Buttery, nationally renowned tubist who has led us in many prior Tubaphonia events, and Ray Vallee, long time tubaphonia coordinator.
We will feature both holiday favorites and Christmas carols including many sing-a-long numbers. The concert is free to the public so encourage your friends and relations to come, enjoy, and join in with this impressive assemblage of lower conical brass instruments. We especially like to include younger horn players, middle school and up, as this is a wonderful introduction for students to associate with players of all ages and, perchance, begin to realize the lifelong rewards music participation brings. Young and old will also appreciate the opportunity to vocalize their favorite selections.
For specific questions, or if you are just curious about the concert, please contact the coordinator, Colin Kane, at (401)651-2215 or cktuba@cox.net.
